Frederic M. Compher, a past President of the New Jersey State Golf Association, donated the Silver Cup in 1959, and the matches were initiated in 1962. They have been played annually with the host club alternating between the two Associations. The record now stands Philadelphia 35, New Jersey 13 with 4 ties.
Eighteen hole individual and four-ball match play played concurrently. One point per individual and four-ball match.
Open to 12 male member club golfers at the invitation of the Championship Committee.

To be determined by the team captain. The captain is one of the team members and is selected by the Championship Committee prior to the event.
Carts or caddies (if available) may be taken at the request of the player.
If there is a tie the trophy remains with the team that won the last match.
